Throughout June and July, we have been gradually returning our in-person events.

It’s been great to be out and about again running face-to-face events, helping members connect, learn and make great business connections, whilst exploring some of the fantastic venues our city has to offer.

Here are some of our highlights from the past couple of months.

Behind-the-scenes at Edward Street Quarter

Our first in-person event since March 2020 (that’s over 15 months!) was a sneak peak of the new Edward Street Quarter development in Brighton.

The £120 million redevelopment of the former AMEX House in Brighton, owned by First Base, will provide public spaces, housing, retail and workspace. Steve Eccles, Project Director at First Base showed members their progress so far, taking them to the top of the 6-storey building for some fantastic views across Brighton.

It was great to be back in-person, doing zoom waves in 3D.

Netwalking

Trialling a new event format, our Netwalking series explores different areas of our beautiful city – combining great walks and great networking.

Although we were subject to the whims of the weather, a spot of rain didn’t put off some of Brighton’s most dedicated networkers, who still joined us for a fun and fresh walk along Brighton seafront to Shoreham Port.

Bite-sized Learning: How to improve performance through strengthening emotional intelligence

We are also back doing some of our Bite-sized Learning events in-person. Aideen Smith Watson, of Lifeblueprint Workplace Wellbeing, ran a workshop for us all about improving

performance through strengthening emotional intelligence.

As we navigate our way through hybrid working, or returning to the workplace, Aideen’s workshop helped attendees to understand emotions, how to manage behaviour and relationships, respond to challenges and find opportunities within workplace stress.

Behind-the-scenes at Ridgeview Wine Estate

Bottom’s up at Ridgeview!

In celebration of English Wine Week, our second behind-the-scenes of the year included a tour of the Ridgeview estate and vines.

We learnt about the family story behind the vines, what goes into production and how they’ve pivoted throughout COVID – ending in a sample of the wine menu with a stunning backdrop over Ditchling and the downs.

Pop-up Breakfast at Moshimo

Another first – our first in-person breakfast since February 2020 – and what better way to kick breakfasts off again than with a Pop-up Breakfast at Moshimo in Brighton.

A Japanese breakfast accompanied by networking and a talk from Patrick Warner, Head of Innovation at Brighton and Hove Buses. Patrick shared his story, from starting the hydrogen bus initiative on local bus routes around Brighton and Hove, to being seconded to other bus companies across the country to spread the initiative.

Slo-mo Networking at Malmaison

Networking on a sunny July morning at Malmaison in Brighton for a structured event focussed on making building great business relationships – finishing the morning off networking on the deck, overlooking the marina.

As we return to face-to-face events, it has been great to see Chamber members meet in-person again to build new business connections, and strengthen old ones.

Head to our event calendar for the latest Brighton Chamber events. We’re continuing to run a mix of in-person and online events, with networking, learning and inspiring opportunities to help you build and grow your business.
