Brighton Gin releases hand sanitiser refills – stay safe and fight waste
28th May 2020Brighton Gin, who since March have been making and donating hand sanitiser to support frontline efforts, are releasing refills to help people not only keep safe but also to reduce waste.
As the COVID crisis unfolded, the team at Brighton’s first distillery were quick to turn their focus from multiple award-winning craft gin to hand sanitiser production, donating two bottles for every one sold to frontline workers. Brighton Gin’s customers have been incredibly supportive of the initiative, with bottles of the sanitiser being sent to individuals all round the UK, enabling many hundreds of bottles to be donated to the brilliant frontline workers (including the NHS and other emergency services) and community organisations who have been working tirelessly throughout this difficult time.
In response to the well-documented global shortage of PPE, including sanitiser bottles with spray atomisers, and with growing concern about the number of potentially reusable bottles being thrown away, the new 50ml sanitiser top-up has been devised to allow several refills of an atomiser pump and the bottle is itself completely recyclable. Wanting to ensure that they made a product that is both completely chemically effective yet gentle on the skin, Brighton Gin is collaborating with leading Lewes cosmetics brand A.S. Apothecary on making the sanitiser. Despite being 75%ABV, the sanitiser with its gorgeous mint and rosemary fragrance does not dehydrate the skin.
From its very beginnings Brighton Gin has actively supported the local community and voluntary sector through their ‘Community Spirit’ initiative. Each refill bottle sold will enable more to be donated to key workers and those frontline staff who have been doing so much to protect our communities.
Kathy Caton, Founder of Brighton Gin, says, “the reaction from people who want to help and support frontline efforts has been humbling. Through our not-for-profit “spray it forward” initiative, every refill purchased through the website enables us to make and donate two to organisations that need it most. This has included everyone from the NHS and frontline workers to foodbanks, projects working with isolated and vulnerable people to care homes and delivery drivers.”
