Businesses & Celebrities Back Brighton’s Biggest Public Art Trail: Be Part of It

In a city, famed for its creativity, businesses and celebrities have come together to back one of the most ambitious and accessible art trails ever seen. Snowdogs by the Sea will see more than 40 individually designed 1.5m tall Snowdog sculptures appear across Brighton & Hove during autumn 2016 in support of local charity, the Martlets Hospice. With over thirty Snowdogs already sponsored and just five weeks left to get involved (the deadline is May 26th), organisers are urging interested businesses to get in touch as soon as possible to secure their involvement in this unique event. 

 

Organisations taking part in Snowdogs by the Sea come from all areas of city life, from well known Brighton landmarks such as Brighton Pier, Theatre Royal, & Brighton Marina, to high profile businesses such as American Express® and I-Crossing. However, many other specialist businesses, have also grasped the opportunity to be part of such a high profile event, whilst supporting a vital local charity. One such business is Palace of Pooch, Steyning. Speaking about her decision to take part, Ella Overington, owner said:

“We are a small business but being animal lovers and the fact this is local, for a good cause and about a dog, ticked all the boxes and we had to be involved. We are hoping for a rather regal pug standing outside Brighton’s Pavilion Palace.”

Other sponsors include: solicitors, (GSFW & BBC Law); restaurants, (Donatello & Moshimo); art shops, (Art Republic & Lawrence Art Supplies) and hotels (Brighton Hove Hotel Association). Long time supporter of the Martlets Hospice, Streamline Taxis have also sponsored a Snowdog to coincide with its 80th anniversary. Vice-chairman John Streeter said the company was still discussing what the sculpture’s name, theme and would be, adding:

“We do a lot of work with The Martlets and it’s a privilege to do so. We have researched this and know it will be a success.”

Artists will be commissioned to design each of the Snowdogs, ensuring a unique identity for every dog. The models, inspired by The Snowman and The Snowdog, the popular sequel to the Sussex-based Raymond Briggs’ classic book and television adaptation, will be auctioned off after the trail. The idea follows in the footsteps of similar projects, run by Wild in Art, in other cities and is expected to raise thousands for the hospice and attract tens of thousands of people to Brighton and Hove.
