Eastbourne’s Most Wanted Locked Up for Hospice Fundraiser

14th March 2019

St Wilfrid’s Hospice will soon be hosting its first ever Jail & Bail fundraiser at the historic Redoubt Fortress. The event, taking place on March 29th, will see a number of well-known local public figures, including MP Stephen Lloyd, swapping their normal attire for jailbird dress and spending the morning behind bars. To secure their release they each need to raise £1,000 bail money between now and then.

The CEO of Posturite, Ian Fletcher-Price, will be doing time for three accounts of bad posture in the work place, while MP Stephen Lloyd was caught in possession of cloning equipment, used to help him appear in several places at once! Joining them, the hospice has also sentenced Funeral Director of Payne & Sons, Lee Howard, actors Jon Campling and Greg Draven, PRG’s Managing Director, Simon Groves, Chief Executive of Eastbourne Chamber, Christina Ewbank, and Owner of W. Bruford jewellers, Ashley Pugh, to a morning behind bars. Leader of Eastbourne Council, David Tutt and Councillor Tony Freebody will also be joining in the fun, attempting to buy their freedom.

Meanwhile, it’s not just individual convicts that have been caught by St Wilfrid’s Hospice – mischievous sisters Denise Greaves, of ETC magazine, and Debbie Gotz, owner of Georgios Coffee House, will be the first partners in crime joining the Jail & Bail line-up, hoping that they can get £2,000 in the bag for the hospice.

Sussex Police Cadets will be present on the day to perform official ‘arrests’ and fingerprint these reprobates before slinging them into the cells. While awaiting their fate, the dastardly crew of 2019 will have time to gather last-minute sponsorship to reach their £1,000 bail.

Being locked up for ‘irresponsible parking’ outside the hospice, St Wilfrid’s CEO David Scott-Ralphs said: ‘It will be a fun morning – I hope – with a serious fundraising side. If we each make bail, that’s a minimum of £16,000 for hospice care in our community.’
