Announcing a brand-new event from Brighton Chamber

As the world steps carefully but confidently back into three dimensions post-Covid, one thing is certain about the next normal – the future will most definitely be hybrid.

To celebrate and mark the dawn of the new hybrid age, we’re holding a brand-new, carefully curated event on 12 November: Hybrid.

Bringing together leading thinkers and entrepreneurs to share their stories of never wasting an opportunity, and their vision of the brave, new hybrid world.

Why Hybrid?

While many of us have missed the authenticity and humanity of work and life in-person – as we adjust to the next normal, our lives continue to be hybrid.

Hybrid is our forward-looking event, where three keynote speakers will share their stories of the past 18 months with our host, Kathy Caton, Founder of Brighton Gin.

They’ll talk about why you should always seize an opportunity and the positives we can bring from change, even in a crisis – to leave you feeling connected, inspired and with a skip in your step.

Meet our first two keynote speakers…

Professor Robin Shattock

Immunologist Professor Robin Shattock has worked on vaccine projects for HIV, Ebola and rabies – and has been at the centre of a search for a Covid vaccine since the start of the pandemic.

Head of Mucosal Infection and Immunity with the Department of Infectious Disease at Imperial College, London, he gave a lecture in 2019 talking about the need to prepare for an inevitable global pandemic, without knowing that it would arrive so soon.

At Hybrid, Robin will talk about the extraordinary events of the last 18 months, his aims for what he and his colleagues will do next, and his aspirations for how we can benefit from the knowledge gained.

Sanjay Lobo

Sanjay Lobo caught the start-up bug working as an in-house lawyer for lastminute.com. What started out as a career he didn’t seek out in law, led to a series of senior roles across Europe at corporates experiencing rapid change.

Fast forward to 2019, and he came across the now award-winning onHand, a tech platform helping vulnerable people get the help they need. It was an answer to some of society’s most difficult problems – and some of his own. His father was onHand’s first customer, and Sanjay is now their CEO.

But in response to the pandemic, Sanjay made a huge change to their business model, setting the company on a new route altogether.

Sanjay has drawn on his wide-ranging experience across many sectors to grow his three-year startup to where it is today. He’ll be sharing the secrets of where he gets his work ethic, learning not to fear change, and the power of being able to influence.

How can you join Hybrid?

In the spirit of hybrid, you can join us either in-person and online.

In-person, we’ll be at Ironworks Studios. There’ll be drinks, networking, nibbles and catching up – and you’ll get to watch our speakers in a unique new multi-purpose event and studio space in the heart of Brighton.

Online, we’ll be streaming the talks via Zoom. So, if online is still your thing, you can raise a glass of bubbles to celebrate the hybrid age and watch our inspiring talks, all without having to swap out your slippers for shoes.

Hybrid is open to all – you don’t have to be a member of Brighton Chamber to attend.

With thanks to our event sponsor, Edward Street Quarter. And to our event partner, Ironworks Studios.
