Local Businesses Team Up To Climb Kilimanjaro For Charity
29th September 2016On the 1st October, a team of 11 local business owners will embark on a trip to the rooftop of Africa – Uhuru Peak – the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Feeling Inspired after their participation in last years’ Chestnut China Challenge, Chris & Elaine Goodman (Focus Group) have teamed up with David Hill (E3 Events) and Lukas Wojcik (McKenzie Associates) to put together a team to take on Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.
The team are raising money for various charities including Chestnut Tree House, Ronald Macdonald House, St Wilfrid’s Hospice, Teenage Cancer Trust and the British Heart Foundation.
Asked to comment on the forthcoming trip, Chris Goodman cited the incredible sense of ‘team’ that he encountered in last year’s challenge, “We raised over £100,000 for Chestnut Tree House last year. It was an incredible trip and real friendships were made. This year it is a very different, far more physical challenge, with greater risks due to the high altitude and exposure. We’ll be on the mountain for 8 days with temperatures ranging from 20oC at the base of the mountain, to -20oC at the summit”.
E3 Events founder David Hill added: “As someone who really doesn’t like heights this will be both a physical and mental challenge at times. However if we can make a real difference to the charities that we are supporting it will all be worthwhile”
The team have already raised over £20,000 for their charities. If you’d like to support them and donate to one of their chosen charities, you can do this at their website www.climb-mtkilimanjaro.com
