Pedal Power raises in excess of £20,000 for Starr Trust

On a damp wet morning in June, 34 brave cyclists set off by coach to a tiny village in Cornwall called Brighton, where they geared themselves up for the cycle ride of their lives, the Brighton to Brighton Bike Ride. This brand new charity event on the summer calendar attracted a wide range of abilities, from keen regular cyclists to those looking for a challenge. Over 4 days, from June 22-26, the cyclists peddled along the picturesque country and coastal ‘Route 2’, through Exeter, Lyme Regis and Bournemouth, covering an incredible 277 miles.
This gruelling event was the brainchild of team leader Tony Wright who planned the route and ensured that everyone was kept safe, but it was only made possible by the generosity of event sponsor The Implant Centre along with support from other local businesses like Rix & Kay Law and Crest Nicholson.
Events Manager Tracey Narvaez told us:
“Everybody completed the miles and made a huge effort to support each other along the way. We saw some fantastic scenery and met lovely locals in the villages we passed through. We arrived back on a sunny Sunday afternoon where we were greeted by cheers from friends and family at a welcome home party held for us by The Big Screen on Brighton beach. We raised in excess of £20,000 with monies still coming in and we’re so grateful for all the support we received.”
The Starr Trust raises money to help young people living in the BN postcode area to fulfil their potential in sports, arts and education.
Press Manager Nicole Carman explained:
“The money raised from this event and others, will pay for essential equipment for our champions like a new camera for a young talented photographer, travel costs for our Team GB athlete so that he can compete internationally and coaching and physio for a young tennis champion. The work we do really does change young lives. We have funding meetings bi-annually and can award grants of up to £5000. We welcome applications on behalf of young people aged 10-18 so if you know anyone that needs a helping hand please let them know.”
