Securing the services of a block property management company that will proactively put the interests of lessees and landlords first is something all those who have invested in flats or commercial property wish for. Thankfully, that caring, personal touch comes as standard with White House Block Management.

Its client-first approach was founded not just on years of experience but a deep understanding that, for many, property will be a person or company’s biggest investment. Up to 60 per cent of the properties it manages are lessee-occupied and building a good rapport has been key to its success.

Forward-thinking with no detail overlooked, it also offers project management and operates a residential advice agency in association with an established independent agent.

We spoke to Managing Director Dan Skipp to find out more about Hove-based White House Block Management and what makes the business stand out from the crowd.

Tell us about how the business started?

I had worked in the property management industry for 15 years and last summer decided the time was right. In particular, the need was there – in Brighton, the wider South East locality and also in London. That need was coupled with a desire from lessees for a service that was different to the ones already out there.

Our focus is on the personal touch. As someone who is experienced in property management, I have seen examples of companies doing things well and examples of those getting things wrong. I wanted to bring all those good elements together in one company.

What services do you offer?

We offer fully inclusive block management services for all residential blocks of flats as well as an extensive commercial property service.

Our latest service that we offer in partnership with Britton & Time Solicitors is our fully inclusive ‘Right to Manage’ service, which gives lessees the opportunity to take back control of their building without having to deal with lots of different businesses to get to the end goal. We take care of everything.

We also offer a range of services on an ad-hoc basis – as and when they are required.

Is there an increasing need in the Brighton area for property management?

Yes. At the moment, we are finding the need is ever-increasing and that is largely due to changes in legislation and compliance requirements across the whole of the property management industry. We are very busy, with a lot of enquiries, Landlords and lessors want to feel looked after and know that they are compliant.

Lessees who are directors and own a share of a freehold now have increased exposure to liability and are looking towards property management agents whereas in the past they may not have.

What are the biggest benefits of using a property management company for your clients?

Reassurance and stability are the top two benefits. Our clients understand there is someone there who knows what they should be doing and how to do it.

Our priority is to work with our clients – not to dictate to them. We assist them and offer advice, and work together. It is very important to us that our clients know that their property asset/s will be looked after.

How do you see property management services evolving in the future?

I think the number of companies offering property management services will shrink. With new regulations and the issues around compliance, some will fail. However, I see this as a real positive because those that remain will offer better services.

We launched White House Block Management to operate at the highest level from our first day in business and, as a result, we are in a good place for the future.

Is there anything you would say to someone who is unhappy with their current property management service provider?

Yes, get in touch! If you – or anyone you know – is being frustrated by their current agent, give us a call or contact us online for an informal, confidential chat.
