to remove roadblocks for young people and extend reach beyond Brighton

The Hove based charity, established in 2008, hosted an exclusive relaunch event at the very top of the Hilton Brighton Metropole for selected VIP guests including Mayor of Brighton, Councillor Alan Robins, TV Vet, Dr Marc Abraham OBE (aka Marc the Vet), Adventurer, Neil Laughton and Big Brother Winner, Jason Burrell.

The special event marked the official unveiling of a brand new identity and mission as a charity, alongside a pledge to extend their reach beyond Brighton alone. Guests heard from the Starr Trust Founder & Chairman, Rob Starr, about his commitment in the coming years to provide support to even more young people. “Our ultimate aim is to remove roadblocks that a young person may be facing, in order to help them succeed in life. We will help them achieve their goals, encourage independent thinking and fill them with self-belief.”  Rob continued… “With the generous support of businesses and individuals, we can help young people overcome huge life challenges and thrive in whatever they put their minds to.”

Guest speaker Hannah, a Starr previously supported by the Trust, bravely spoke alongside her mother to tell her story of how the the Starr Trust has supported her over the years, telling guests “By the Starr Trust believing in me and helping with funding for my passion of kayaking, at a time when I felt life wasn’t worth living, it has quite literally saved my life.” Hannah is now a confident senior lead kayaking instructor running lessons of her own.

In attendance along with other special guests was Dr Marc Abraham OBE, media vet, author, and animal welfare campaigner, who said, “I’m really proud to support the Starr Trust and all the opportunities it provides for young people, often from less fortunate backgrounds, to fulfil their hopes, dreams, and aspirations.”

The Mayor of Brighton, Councillor Alan Robins said: “I was so pleased to attend the Starr Trust event at the Hilton Brighton Metropole, as the work that they do supporting young people to reach their potential in different ways is heart-warming. Both as an individual or as a business, there are opportunities to support young people, who may otherwise not have had a chance to further their potential. The work that the Starr Trust does is commendable.”

Guests enjoyed a brunch together, watched a new short film about the charity and were invited to enter a competition to win a luxury hamper, kindly donated by Fortnum & Mason, with the deserved winner being long term supporter Simon Haffenden of British Airways i360. “What a fantastic event and charity, BAi360 will continue to support this worthy cause however we can and encourage other businesses to take a look at what they do and get involved!” said Simon, Head of Guest Experience at  BAi360.
