Sussex steps up – supporting young people through the Starr Trust
26th April 2026Across Sussex, individuals and businesses are stepping up to raise vital funds for disadvantaged young people in our community.
Mark Archer conquers the 200k Mustang Trail Race in the Himalyas
Retired fireman and Starr Trust cycling event team leader Mark Archer has completed his biggest challenge to date: the Mustang Trail Race, an 8-stage, high-altitude trail race through the trans-Himalayan region of Nepal. Covering 200km with over 10,000 metres of climbing in a gruelling 27 hours and 13 minutes, Mark finished an outstanding 7th out of 34 participants. Having previously taken part in bike ride challenges organised by the Starr Trust, Mark felt this extraordinary Himalayan adventure deserved its own fundraising effort and has so far raised over £800, with fundraising still ongoing.
Property Moves lights up Brighton Marathon Day
Hove-based letting agents Property Moves, who have chosen the Starr Trust as their charity of the year, brought fantastic community spirit to Brighton Marathon Day. Joint Directors Graham and Warren served up BBQ food to spectators taking donations for The Starr Trust and other team members gave out free water to runners. Property moves also staged a selfie competition with a Big Brighton Day Out prize, kindly gifted by The Avenue in Hove. The day raised a brilliant £340 for the Starr Trust.
EMC’s Mike Gibbs takes on the London Marathon
Having run last year’s Vienna Marathon for the Starr Trust, Mike Gibbs, Partner at EMC Corporate Finance, is back for an even bigger challenge: the London Marathon. As Mike says: “We are huge supporters of the great work that the Starr Trust undertake in the local region. We are delighted to be able to support such important causes.”
This year Mike is running for both the Starr Trust and Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, donating £500 to each.
Networking with Balls Pool League raffle raises £635 for local charities
The Starr Trust is proud to be a beneficiary of the Networking with Balls Pool League Tournament, run by David Quinton of Metro Bank. A raffle held at the April tournament raised a fantastic £635, to be split equally between the Starr Trust and Rockinghorse Children’s Charity. On top of this, corporate teams taking part in the tournament are also given the option to donate their prize winnings directly to the two charities, going even further to do good in the local community. A wonderful example of the Sussex business community coming together for a truly worthwhile cause.
Tracey Starr, Partnerships Liaison for The Starr Trust said:
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us so far this year, and a special good luck to Mike Gibbs for the London Marathon; we will be rooting for you every step of the way! We are receiving more and more applications from young people reaching out for help. We need individuals to take on challenges and businesses to get creative with their teams to find fun and innovative ways to fundraise. Please do reach out as we are here to support you with your fundraising ideas. Together, we can reach even more disadvantaged young people across Sussex.”
